The emerging insurance markets in the CEE and CIS regions have a significant potential in the future years and they will play an increasingly important role in the global reinsurance industry. “Geographically, they represent quite a significant region which will develop extensively over the next 20 to 30 years. And as these markets develop, they will increase their involvement in the global reinsurance market”, Kirill SAVRASSOV, Chief Underwriting Officer and Senior Vice-President, PHOENIX CRetro Re’s, has explained in an interview for INSURANCE DAY.

Phoenix CRetro serves as an aggregator for companies in the CEE, CIS and Mena regions to participate in the international catastrophe reinsurance markets

To begin with, Phoenix CRetro Re, a special purpose vehicle which was authorised in Bermuda in May of this year, will be providing catastrophe retrocession cover to syndicates in the Lloyd’s market. In terms of its structure, Phoenix CRetro Re is not a risk carrying entity, but serves as a platform through which Lloyd’s syndicates and, after a year or so, other global reinsurers, can access retrocession capacity provided by insurance and reinsurance companies as well as institutional investors based in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

The first Scandinavian ILS & cat bond fund manager?

ORIGINAL PUBLICATION HERE

We could soon see the launch of the first Scandinavian based insurance-linked securities and catastrophe bond fund manager, if the efforts of a Swedish manager and his team are successful.

Robert Lindblom, former CEO of Brummer Life, the life insurance arm of Swedish hedge fund manager Brummer & Partners, has had several meetings with re/insurance companies, European ILS managers and analysts.

The object of these meetings and the European tour seems to be to investigate the possibility, and market appetite, to establish the first Scandinavian ILS management company.
